Business Relationship Officer
Role
Originates, manages, and supervises a large portfolio of commercial loans, typically between $20M and $50M, with the overall objective of maintaining and increasing its asset quality. Develops new and existing business relationships. To assist members with their business lending and deposit needs. Analyze loan requests and make credit recommendations based on lending policy.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Interviews business loan applicants to gather and assess information concerning their loan needs, earnings, and financial condition. Explains loan programs to members, recommends loan options, and determines the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money. Prepares loan approval packages and makes decision to approve, disapprove, or forward the loan request to higher levels for decision.
Participates in developing lending and deposit business for the Credit Union. Calls on clients to expand existing business; calls on prospects seeking opportunities to expand the Credit Union’s client base.
Perform ongoing portfolio management, including annual reviews and monitoring. Work closely with Business Services Representatives to monitor collateral periodically to detect any loss in value; monitor collateral exceptions and follow up on pending items. Minimize Credit Union risk and maximize borrowing potential.
Assists Business Services Representatives in preparing and/or reviewing all loan documents for completeness and accuracy.
Keeps informed of current trends in business credit.
Establishes the structure of the loan, including pricing terms and duration in accordance with the member relationship and company policies.
Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
Knowledge and Skills
Experience
Five years to eight years of similar or related experience.
Education/Certifications/Licenses
A college degree. Experience equivalent to a college degree (BS or BA in a relevant field).
Interpersonal Skills
A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating, influencing or training others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
Other Skills
Must have a valid Drivers License. Ability to analyze applicants financial information, assess risk, and recommends approval of customer application for commercial loans based on a thorough due diligence process. . Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word. Must have proven track record of selling and servicing business loans or similar services. Must be familiar with various computer software programs and comfortable with automated technology. Must be able to type, use PC, general office equipment including ten-key calculator and excellent in Excel and Word programs. Excellent organizational and editing skills, communication skills with vendors, staff, members, and general public.
