Data Scientist

The Data Scientist is an important member within the Enterprise Information Management & Analytics (IM&A) team and is responsible for using data, analytical tools and statistical methods to draw key insights from data to build advanced analytics models that enable data-driven decision-making. The position strives to deliver value every day to our internal business partners through data analytics by optimizing business outcomes for the credit union. We are looking for intellectually curious, strategic thinking and strong communicators.
Essential Functions:
•Collect, synthesize and interpret data; develop creative approaches, frameworks, and insights to address and formulate data-driven strategic recommendations for key business problems. Includes identifying actionable opportunities and quantification of potential bottom-line financial impact for strategic recommendations.
•Deliver analytical insights in support of key business initiatives through in-depth data exploration and data mining to develop a deep understanding of member and behavior. This includes identifying and developing growth strategies, based on identifying customer segments, buying behaviors, and customer value propositions.
•Partner with key stakeholders (i.e., Lending, Operations, Marketing) to identify opportunities for leveraging advanced analytics.
•Use advanced data visualization techniques to provide a concise and compelling summary of analytical findings and recommendations in reports and presentations. Perform ad-hoc analysis to address specific business questions from stakeholder groups.
•Build analytical frameworks for marketing and other functional measurement – e.g. A/B testing, campaign ROI, cost of acquisition modeling, lifetime value, etc.
•Research and apply enhancements to existing suite of models to improve quality and accuracy of delivered results. Recommend possible changes to assumptions in model drivers.
•Leverage machine learning models and techniques to target opportunities and optimize processes.
•Develop tools and solutions to measure model performance over time. Work with business partners and IT for the operationalization and maintenance of the models

Job Qualifications
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s Degree in an applied quantitative discipline (Data Science/Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Economics, Finance or related fields)
•5+ years’ experience in applying statistical methods to real world problems
•5+ years’ experience with SQL and Python or R
•Superior written, oral communication and presentation skills with experience communicating concisely and effectively with all levels of management and partners
•5+ years’ experience with visualization tools and techniques for data analysis and presentation to uncover analytical insights as well as dashboards design for senior management such as Tableau or MicroStrategy.
•Practical knowledge of advanced statistical techniques, predictive modeling, time series forecasting, and techniques such as Logistic Regression, Generalized Linear Models, Decision Trees, Neural Networks, Markov, Multivariate Analysis, Monte Carlo, text mining, and Machine Learning Experience working with technology and data engineers to automate workflow.
•Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to work on multiple projects on a concurrent basis and be able to meet deadlines
•Ability to multitask and to collaborate with other internal staff to coordinate model validations.
•Ability to effectively explain complex issues and concepts in simple, understandable language to technical and business audiences
•Complies with all Credit Union policies and procedures including those related to Bank Secrecy Act regulations
Preferred Qualifications:
•Advanced Degree in Statistics, Math or Analytics
•Extensive experience with Tableau
•Extensive experience with Python
•Experience working in an Agile Data Warehousing/Business Intelligence environment
•Prior relevant experience building financial/credit risk models within the Credit Union or Financial Services Industry
