Title: Senior Commercial SBA Underwriter

Job Location: Livermore, CA

Hiring salary range: $101,814.00 – $130,594.00 annual

Position Overview

The Senior Commercial SBA Underwriter’s primary job function is to perform a review and analysis of small business loan applications, and present conclusions and recommendations via the loan credit memorandum for SBA loans. The quality, completeness and accuracy are of utmost importance to ensure that Fremont Bank makes sound lending decisions.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Prepare loan credit memorandums recommending credit decision upon the review and analysis of the loan application package and supporting documentation.
  • Evaluate CRE, business acquisitions, equipment, expansions, start-up, and tenant improvement project requests are in compliance with bank underwriting guidelines along with SBA requirements
  • Analyze and spread borrower financial data including financial statements, tax returns, projections, schedule of real estate, leases, credit reports, background reports, character review, and resumes
  • Review of title reports, UCC filings, appraisals, environmental reports, and business valuations.
  • Complete industry analysis assessing and mitigating credit risk
  • Facilitate communications and information between bank personnel, SBA, and third-party partners
  • Contact/communicate with Commercial Relationship Managers and their assistants to discuss issues and outstanding documentation
  • Manage loan pipelines for loans in process
  • Assist in portfolio management, servicing requests, annual reviews, and special asset transfers
  • Provide training to processors and commercial credit analysts as needed
  • Maintain knowledge of updates to the loan policy, procedural notices, and SBA SOP
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent related experience
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in commercial lending with at least five years underwriting SBA 7(a) and/or 504 Loans.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of SBA policy and procedures
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with prior commercial lending experience
  • Proficient in financial analysis centered in credit quality and cash flow including accounting, spreading financial statements and tax returns
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced understanding of borrower documentation and third-party reports such as entity documents, credit/background reports, appraisals, business valuations, title, and environmental
  • Minimal supervision required to fulfill responsibilities with the ability to work effectively with individuals across the bank to assist in managing internal and external relationships
  • Ability to deliver excellent service to teammates, sales staff, and customers
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while delivering accurate and quality work product
  • Knowledge of the Bay Area real estate market preferred
