We are looking for an experienced SBA Underwriter at our Roseville location. This is an advanced position responsible for assistance with the initial level of credit review and analysis of commercial loan transactions. The SBA Underwriter will review the adequacy of information, the need to obtain additional information and perform financial analysis including spreading and testing financial covenants. In addition, the SBA Underwriter will analyze commercial and personal credit information from borrowers and guarantors to determine the risk involved in lending money to new and existing small business and commercial real estate customers. The SBA Underwriter will work independently with little or no oversight on low to moderate complex duties. The strong candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree (B.A) from a four-year college or university and a minimum of three to five years of relevant credit analysis or commercial underwriting experience and SBA knowledge; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Responsibilities:
- Reviews loan submissions for adequacy of information and financials, to verify that application data is complete and meets establishment standards.
- Underwrites loan requests up to $10MM of low to medium-high complexity by preparing credit authorization and detailed credit analysis conforming to and in compliance with Summit State Bank loan underwriting standards for SBA, USDA, and conventional loans.
- Performs and documents risk assessment on loan requests. Verifies accuracy of information provided.
- Works directly with Lenders/Relationship Manager and Borrowers to discuss issues, ask questions, and make financial and covenant recommendations as necessary.
- Review and analyze appraisal assumptions and methodologies; incorporate appraisal information into Bank credit authorization. Evaluates and verifies all collateral on all secured loans and prepares reports of findings.
- Works closely with all parties to assist in timely processing, credit approval, and closing of new loan requests.
- Works closely with the Loan Ops Department to ensure procedures are followed in the closing and funding of the loans.
- Performs financial analysis for financial covenant testing and annual term loan reviews.
- Recommends and drafts one-time and permanent waivers for RM and/or managing underwriter review.
- Clears ticklers, and draft default letters for RM and/or managing underwriter review.
- Construction Lending –

- Perform all aspects of General Contractor analysis and qualification.
- Create and maintain budget spreadsheets.
- Coordinate draw funding with Loan Ops staff.
- Works closely with managing underwriter on highly complex issues.
- Works independently with little or no oversight on low to moderate complex duties.
- Provide training, coaching, and mentoring to Credit Analysts and junior Underwriters.
- Learn from experienced underwriters to continually improve credit knowledge.
