Job Summary:

This position will work with all functional areas and disciplines to continually improve plant safety and reliability in the production of mineral abrasives. The position is an active member of the Maintenance and Engineering Team and works closely with the Reliability Team to improve plant uptime and reliability.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties may be assigned)

  • Provides safety leadership and commitment at all levels to further improve and sustain the North Creek safety culture.

  • Design and implementation of a wide variety of projects to improve the performance and reliability of our crushing, milling, screening, and packaging operations.

  • Provide engineering project leadership for equipment and process improvements in a collaborative team environment.

  • Identifying savings opportunities that result in improved equipment reliability, product quality, and plant environmental and safety performance.

  • Ensures work areas and services comply with applicable MSHA, environmental regulations and industry protocols.

  • Sustains management policies with respect to employee management, procurement of equipment and services, vendor relations, cost control and maintenance program development.

  • Provide technical support to aid Maintenance Department in solving problems focusing on root cause solutions.

  • Provide contemporary project management support on major maintenance and on some misc. capital and major capital projects.

  • Act as a maintenance liaison with engineering to ensure maintenance concerns are adequately addressed in the design and construction phases of capital projects.

  • Facilitate the preparation of technical documents such as drawings, specifications and scope of work as needed.

  • Facilitate contract bidding process and provide in the field coordination and project management of contracted work activities.

  • Maintains detailed maintenance records of repairs and or improvements to ensure historical databases are kept current for future reference.

  • Work within the Maintenance Work Order control process to ensure efficient execution of requested work within the functional areas.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

This position does have outside contractor coordination and management responsibilities.

Education and Experience:

  • Five or more years of Project, Process and/or Plant Reliability Engineering experience in a heavy industrial work environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering field.
  • Strong project management skills which include the ability to direct both internal and external resources to ensure the timely completion of project work and conformance to specifications.

Special Requirements:

  • Driver’s license required.
  • First aid and CPR certification desirable
  • Occasional travel
  • Extended and/or non-traditional hours including ability to be on call before/after normal work hours on a regular basis

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A solid understanding and awareness of OSHA and/or MSHA regulations, as well as local building codes and the practical application of such regulations.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are required to interface with production supervision, operators, and staff.
  • Must be a self-starter who can work well with people at all levels both internally and outside the organization.
  • Proven experience writing and implementing capital projects, to include calculating a Return on Investment, developing Requests for Proposals, and overseeing the field project work.
  • Excellent trouble shooting and diagnostic skills. Use SPC and other statistical methods to evaluate impact of proposed and completed projects.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including experience with Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and CMMS Software.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety through role modeling safe work behaviors and adherence to safety compliance, policies, regulations, etc.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations and compel change.
  • Project accounting, cost control and forecasting skills.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time, stand, walk, use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions of the hands and/or wrists.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently, and/or a exert a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Close mental and visual attention required for controlling machines or processes at a rapid pace requiring close coordination and fine adjustment. And/or planning or directing complex work methods or operations that obtain size, shape, or physical qualities of product.

Environmental Conditions:

The worker is frequently exposed to occupational hazards which require routine precautions and is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions such as, noise, fumes, dust, moving parts and equipment, and exposure to outdoor weather elements.
